Rise Against Political Corruption and Hunger in Haiti

The right to adequate food as a human right was first formally recognized by the United Nations in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) from 1948, as a part of the right to a decent standard of living.  In the UDHR Article 25 it was stated that:  Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.

What?

In 2010, a tragic earthquake struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  Death toll estimates vary anywhere from 220,000 to 316,000. Over one million people were initially displaced. Despite raising billions of dollars for reconstruction, today over half a million still remain homeless. This project examines the correlation between political corruption and hunger. It aim to deliver food directly to Haitian people who are suffering from decades of starvation.

How?

ICPMR have partnered with various individuals and institutions such as universities and churches to start the conversation on how organizations can reach the victims directly and most importantly to collect food throughout South Florida. Once a month, the collected items are shipped to our office location in Port-au-Prince and are distributed directly to the people.
